Marje Lohuaru (Estonia) is a graduate of Tallinn Music High School, Tallinn State Conservatory (BMus in Piano) and St Petersburg Conservatory (PhD in Music). She has been employed at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EAMT) since 1973, working as a teacher in the chamber music department from 1981, Associate Professor from 1988, the head of the Chamber Music department from 1991 and Professor of Chamber Music from 1998. She was Vice-Rector for International Relations 1993–2012, from 2015 has been the Head of the Chamber Music Studies and since 2018 she has been the Deputy Chairman of the Doctoral Council of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theater. Marje Lohuaru has continued actively performing, mostly in chamber music ensembles and as an accompanist to singers, working with musicians such as Urve Tauts, Kaie Konrad, Pille Lill, Riina Airenne, Ulrika Kristian, Urmas Vulp, Peeter Paemurru, Jelena Komarova, Marianne Boettcher, Laure Delcampe, Rūta Lipinaitytė, Oliver Kuusik, Kädy Plaas-Kala, Monika-Evelin Liiv, Geraldine Casanova among the others. Concerts have taken place in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Canada, USA, France, UK, etc. She has also recorded CDs, been on the juries of several international competitions and given master courses in most European countries. She has been a member of Boards in such organisations as ELIA (European League of Institutes of Arts), European Chamber Music Teachers Association, Estonian Music Council, Estonian Cultural Endowment Music Estonia. She was the Chairwoman of the Board of the Association of Estonian Professional Musicians and the Estonian Music Development Centre. Since 2016 Marje Lohuaru has been the Chairwoman of the European Chamber Music Teachers Association. She has been awarded the Estonian Republic’s V Class Order of the White Star, the Estonian Cultural Endowment Music Award and the Estonian Music Council Award.
